If the impeder section is burning up frequently, check the coolant delivery system. Small impeders must be supplied with coolant at 60 to 100 pounds per square inch (PSI) and sufficient flow to prevent the ferrite from reaching its Curie temperature (see Figure 2). Many tube mill coolant systems deliver 40 PSI, resulting in overheated impeders.
